By profession, I’m a Civil Engineer who has specialized in water resources management. I realized very early in my career that the best political decisions must involve people with sound environmental knowledge. The last 20 years of my career were devoted to flood protection and environmental restoration. Expected sea level rise makes the floods we must plan for so much worse. Serving on Council will give me the opportunity to protect my own community by making sure that the sea level rise protections we need get constructed. These projects are also an opportunity to provide good jobs and green the economy.

During my 4 years on Council, I applied to committees where my professional experience was particularly relevant like Bay Conservation and Development Commission (BCDC), the San Francisco Bay Restoration Authority, the Energy & Environment Committee of the National League of Cities and Water Now Alliance, and Santa Clara County’s Recycling and Waste Reduction Commission and the Advanced Water Re-use Committee between Valley Water and the cities of Mountain View and Palo Alto.

Like most people in Mountain View, I migrated here from somewhere else. Just a year after graduating from Mount Holyoke College with majors in Geology & American History I started graduate school at UC Berkeley. I earned a masters in Civil Engineering. I spent 2nd semester of my junior year at Princeton where I met my husband, Steve Longcor.
