By 1983, Elijah Roots had already vanished from Kingston’s streets — but his name still echoed through yards like a warning. A dreadlocked prophet, rebel priest, and sonic mystic, Elijah never bowed to Babylon, never sought fame — only truth, riddim, and righteousness.
Raised in the tenement fire of Trenchtown, Elijah walked between scripture and sound system, guided by the teachings of Marcus Garvey, Haile Selassie I, and the vibration of the drums. He became a voice for the voiceless — chanting psalms at sound clashes, preaching to ghetto youths with nothing but a cracked mic and holy conviction.
In 1983, during his self-imposed exile in Clarendon, Elijah recorded what would become his most spiritual and dangerous work: Revelation Dub Scrolls. Tracked inside a hilltop tabernacle using a failing tape machine and live Nyabinghi fire, the album was part sermon, part dub ritual — a coded message for the oppressed.
It was never released. The master tape was seized, lost, and thought to be destroyed… until now.
