I found this vintage remote control buggy in a thrift store. What a classic! I'm too young to have been around for its original glory days, but I'm familiar with its grip on enthusiasts. Since my gamertag is so similar to this car's name, I've had my sights set on one for a few years now. Today the classic rc car takes its first drive in at least 20 years, I'm sure.
This car came with some really great electronics of the time, including digital proportional steering, but we're gonna replace all that with modern hobby-grade electronics. (The original motor stays.) I was, however, very impressed with the electronics in this car. It's no toy! This thing means business!
I start by removing the original control board and power switch. The steering servo came out with two screws after the motor wires were de-soldered from the control board. After much fussing about with the new steering servo placement, it found a home. The servo is located on the front side of the vehicle at an angle and shimmed up about 3/4 of an inch. this gives the original steering linkage enough room to do its thing.
I'm using a basic 2S ESC with F/B/R from Amazon. In this test I didn't have the brake working.
The battery is out of my Red Cat Volcano, and it was old when I got it, so I'm sure it's not as juicy as it could be. The ESC and battery are mounted on foam plates for now.

The RX/TX is Fly Sky RCR-2cE and it's perfect for builds like this.

I slapped a 1/10 pink truck body on the car for the test bash and I LOVE IT! It looks so sassy zipping around! The Golden Arrow performed far better than I expected in this prototype configuration, so I'm sure it's only going to get better!

I plan to relocate the battery to the original mounting location after some trimming (maybe just a new battery!). When that's out of the way I'll have room to mount everything inside the chassis and use the original Golden Arrow body.

5200 mAh 50C 2S LiPo Battery
RX/TX combo

All other parts original, stuff is hot glued in.
