Sir Winston Churchill was an extraordinary man who lived a life for the ages. He was a man for whom compromise and anything but one's best effort was unacceptable. After leaving office Churchill began painting and developed into an accomplished artist. And though this small painting did not require a herculean conservation effort there were some issues that could only be qualified as adequate.

In this video, aside from conserving the painting and addressing mistakes during the last conservation, efforts are made to salvage the hardboard backing to which the painting was mounted but in a way that is in accord with modern archival practices. Though this work modest it is critical and the effects profound and certainly more than merely adequate.
