Both Eric Clapton and JJ Cale became wealthy men because of each other. Some of Clapton's greatest hits, like "After Midnight" and "Cocaine," were written by Cale, who went to his mailbox numerous times to get royalty checks. Eric covered many of Cale's songs, including I'll Make Love To You Anytime" (on Backless 1978) and "Travelin' Light" on his 2001 album Reptile. In 2000, they worked together on a Crickets tribute album. Eric and JJ collaborated on an album titled "Road To Escondido" which won a Grammy Award. Eric and Cale recorded Cale's "River Runs Deep" and "Everything Will Be Alright," and Robert Wilkins' "That's No Way To Get Along" for Eric's 2010 album CLAPTON. When Eric recorded Cale's "Angel" for his 2013 album Old Sock, Cale played on the song. After Cale's passing that year, Cale paid tribute to JJ with the album The Breeze: An Appreciation of JJ Cale.
From his 2016 album I Still Do, here is Eric's recording of JJ's song "I Can't Let You Do It." Notable musicians on the album include Walt Richmond of The Tractors, Chris Stainton of Joe Cocker's Mad Dogs & Englishmen, and Henry Spinetti, a former member of Paul McCartney's Wings.
That album also has Eric's rendition of Cale's song "Somebody's Knocking." It is on this YouTube channel. Neither song has been released as a recording by JJ Cale.
