Nevada-tan is a meme that emerged in 2004 and became popular on the Japanese imageboard 2chan. The meme is a character called Nevada-tan who was based on Natsumi Tsuji.

Nevada Tan, an 11-year-old girl (at the time) who had kill3d her classmate, Satomi Mitarai. The murder occurred on June 1, 2004, in the school where Natsumi studied. Natsumi k1lled Satomi with a box cutter when she was alone with her.

After k1lling Satomi, Nevada returned to her classroom with her blood-stained clothes. The school where the tragedy occurred was an elementary school in Sasebo, Nagasaki Prefecture.

The event quickly received worldwide press coverage. The first bit of international coverage appeared on 3 June 2004, when the article in BBC News was published about the incident.

In accordance with Japanese legal procedures that prohibit the identification of minor delinquents, the girl's real name was not disclosed, and Japanese police referred to her as "Girl A".

Despite efforts to protect the girl's identity, her real name was revealed a few days after the incident. Fuji TV discovered his real name by chance while showing some of his drawings on national television.
The kanji shown in some photos (辻菜摘) is from the girl who signed her drawings. When the kanji is romanized, it reads: Natsumi Tsuji. In this way the identity of the killer was discovered.

When placed in custody, Nevada admitted to the crime. Homicide's base was surrounded by a website she created.
