The 40 Part Motet (A reworking of Spem in Alium by Thomas Tallis) an installation by Janet Cardiff

The Forty Part Motet. This is a 3 minute excerpt from a 13 minute sound installation by Janet Cardiff.

In this work, each of the voices of Thomas Tallis' 1575 composition, Spem in Alium have been recorded separately and are played back individually through one of forty speakers. As you walk around the space, you can listen to each of the voices in turn, or to all of them together from the middle of the room.
