Church Discipline
1 Corinthians 5:9-11, “9 I wrote unto you in an epistle not to company with fornicators:
10 Yet not altogether with the fornicators of this world, or with the covetous, or extortioners, or with idolaters; for then must ye needs go out of the world.
11 But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolator, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such an one no not to eat.”
We can’t avoid being around unbelievers, the world is full of them.
We should be friends with unbelievers if we are going to reach them with the Gospel, Jesus spent a lot of time with unbelievers, and He was very compassionate with them, but he confronted religious hypocrites.
Jesus hated the sin but loved the sinner; we should do the same.

None of us are perfect, we sin and repent from time to time.
But if someone claims to be a Christian who is a member of the same church that we are a member of, and is living in a willful sinful lifestyle, and we keep close fellowship with them, it is like saying that we approve of their sin; it damages our witness to the world, and others in our church who are not spiritually mature.
The point of church discipline is to make the church member who is living a willful unrepentant sinful lifestyle realize they are sinning so they repent and become restored to fellowship.
