Bell Boyd The Woman Confederate Spy

Описание к видео Bell Boyd The Woman Confederate Spy

Maria Isabella "Belle" Boyd, born in 1844 in Martinsburg, Virginia, was a prominent Confederate spy during the Civil War. Her family had strong Southern ties, with her father serving in the Stonewall Brigade and several other family members being convicted Confederate spies. After Federal troops occupied Martinsburg in 1861, Belle Boyd shot and killed a drunken Union soldier who had insulted her and her mother. Surprisingly, she faced no repercussions for this act, as the commanding officer deemed her actions justified. This event marked the beginning of her career as "the Rebel Spy" at the age of 17.
