Описание к видео The Holohan Sisters "The Rare Ould Times"

Here's the lovely Holohan Sisters Jane on vocals and Jenny on guitar and vocals giving us their exquisite performance "The Rare Ould Times" A nostalgic song old remembered days in Dublin Ireland. "The Rare Ould Times" is a song composed by Pete St. John in the 1970s for the Dublin City Ramblers. The song tells of the changes that have occurred in Dublin since the 1960s. The song is sung by fans of Dublin GAA teams. The song is often just called "The Rare Old Times" or alternatively "The Rare Auld Times". The song has been sung by many artists such as The Dubliners, The High Kings and Flogging Molly and was first recorded by the Dublin City Ramblers.[1]
The song represents changes being made in Ireland where an entire generation of people became void of industrial production while numerous foreigners were not.

The song mentions numerous historical sites in Dublin such as the 'Met' or Metropole Ballroom and 'the pillar' or Nelson's Pillar and 'The Royal' (former Royal Theatre)
Anna Liffey is a reference to the River Liffey
Pimlico is a working class district on the southside

Pete St. John (real name Peter Mooney) is an Irish folk singer-songwriter, most notable for composing Fields of Athenry.[1]
St. John is a prolific composer of widely sung modern ballads; his other most famous songs are "The Rare Ould Times" and "The Ferryman". His songs often express regret for the loss of old certainties (the former song regrets the loss of Nelson's Pillar and the Metropole Ballroom, two symbols of old Dublin, as progress makes a "city of my town").
