How Did They Do? | Assessing

Alright people it has been a very wild transfer portal ride and now that everything is almost over I want to take a look at some of the winners and losers of what I’m calling the “Transfer arms race”.

And in this video we talk about the @DukeWBB and how they I think they faired during of the transfer portal.

This offseason Duke lost two of their best players: Celeste Taylor who is going to Ohio State and Shayeann Day-Wilson who is headed to Miami.

Celeste Taylor was the best player on the team last year for Duke as the leader scorer and the steals leader. Not only that she was their best player from the perimeter and a very solid rebounder and good at assisting. And not only was she a great offensive threat she was Dukes best defender, last season she was the @ACCDigitalNetwork Defensive Player of the Year

Shayeann was a very solid player for Duke, as a freshman she was the ACC Freshman of the year, has year she started 29 of Dukes games, leading the team in assists and was the teams 3rd top scorer.

Duke also lost Jordyn Oliver. Which isn’t the biggest loss for the team but she was solid. Starting 7 games last season and was top 3 in assists for the team.

Next year Duke will only have two starters remaining Reigan Richardson and Kennedy Brown. And this is a tough situation for Duke, as a team they hung their hat on defense but they loose their best defender and in terms of scoring they only averaged 64 points a game last year some of which just walked out the door.

I think one good thing for Kara Lawson is that she at least added some talent. They added Yale center Camila Emsbo a 5th year senior. Emsbo missed all of last year due to a ACL tear but before that she was a really solid player previously averaging a double double and being selected as a two time all ivy league player. One big change for Duke will be learning how to play with a traditional back to the basket post player which is something that they haven’t had recently.

Duke also added sophomore Taina Mair from Boston College. Tina also is a very solid player who started every game last season and was an all ACC Freshman. She is a good point guard so from an assist perspective I think she will be good for Duke

So as far as transfers go, its not a total loss for Duke they added some solid players but they are still weaker on the defensive end and in 3 point shooting.

But if you are a Duke fan, I say fear not because Duke did get 3 top 30 recruits to commit including Jadyn Donovan the incoming number 3 ranked player.
