DRISHTIKON - A Digital Platform for Youth Expression

Today, short films have become an ideal way to allow the general populace a window, an opportunity to glimpse a tale in a short and comprehensive form. While short documentaries are an “ice breaker” where facts on sensitive issues like sex and sexuality, gender – roles and norms, identity and empowerment are chronicled, a narrative short touches upon these issues in an entertaining manner . Such films, fiction or non-fiction, provide us a scope or chance for discussion and help us study their reaction on audiences. . This can help to eliminate many myths and misconceptions that individuals have related to sex, sexuality, gender including sexual and reproductive health and rights.
With this in mind, FPA India is hosting Drishtikon, an online short film festival, that will provide a platform to the youth across India, aged between 15-24, to make and showcase films / documentaries (maximum of twenty minutes) and express themselves and make their voices and opinions heard through the audio-visual medium..

The film festival will be divided into four major thematic categories. They are-

I: Sexuality
a) Sexuality and social media
b) Sexuality and disabilities
II: Gender
a) Gender based violence
b) Gender and empowerment
III: Universal Access to Sexual and Reproductive Health
a) Access to SRH and Young People
b) Access to SRH and Men
c) Access to SRH and Key Population
IV: Abortion
a) Women and post abortion care
b) Access to abortion – girls and women

FPA India encourages that the youth submit films covering these subjects, in both narrative and documentary formats. There are no genre boundaries, and the films can offer unique takes on the subject- enthusiastic uplifting tales, positive stories of empowerment, focused insights into issues, cautionary episodes and many more.

Family Planning Association of India (FPA India) is a civil society organization that provides comprehensive sexual and reproductive health information and services to over 30 million people, making sexual and reproductive health (SRH) care easily accessible to those who are in need, viz. socio-economically vulnerable men and women, young people, People Living with HIV (PLHIV), people who use drugs, MSM (men who have sex with men), transgenders, and sex workers since 1949. Its headquarters is based in Mumbai.
