Do you want to use your own created icons on your desktop PC? This is possible and you can create it very easily. We will use the free image editing software GIMP to create an icon. Follow the steps as shown in this video.

1. Open your web browser, type GIMP in the Google search bar, and press the Enter key.
2. From the search result, click on this first link of gimp.org.
3. Click on the Download button from the main page.
4. On the next page, click on a Download link to select a mirror server.
5. Choose a location on your PC to save the exe file of the GIMP setup.
6. Once the download is completed, then open the saved location of the setup file.
7. Double click on the GIMP setup file to start the installation and follow the screen instructions to complete the installation.
8. When the installation will complete, click on the Finish button to close the setup screen.
9. Now, click on the Windows Start icon.
10. Click on the GIMP program from the installed program list.
11. Click on the maximize button to maximize the GIMP software screen.
12. Click on the File menu at the top left, and then click on New.
13. The image size of your icon as required. Here, for demo purposes, I am setting the width and height size as 256 pixels.
14. Click on the Advanced Options to expand it.
15. I am setting the resolution of the icon at 72 pixels, and then click on the OK button.
16. Click on the New layer icon at the bottom right, and select the Fill with option as Transparency.
17. Click on the OK button.
18. Now you can create an icon of your choice by using the available tools in GIMP.
19. Once your icon is ready, then delete the unused layers with the background layer.
20. Select the top layer, and click on the Layer menu at the top.
21. From the drop-down menu list, click on the Merge Down option. This will merge all the layers.
22. Click on the File menu at the top left, and then click on the Export or Export As option from the list.
23. Click on the Select File Type, and from the different file format list.
24. Select the Microsoft Windows icon with ico extension.
25. Type a name for your icon file, and then click on the Export button.
26. Click again on the Export button.
27. Go to your saved location and you will find that the icon file has been created.
