In a fiery Capitol Hill hearing, Kari Lake — senior adviser to the U.S. Agency for Global Media and a close Trump ally — made headlines by calling on Congress to defund and dismantle the Voice of America and other taxpayer-funded international media outlets.

Lake didn’t hold back.
“What’s going out on VOA airwaves — it’s outrageous,” she said, calling the agency “corrupt,” “biased,” and even “a rotten piece of fish.”
Her remarks stunned members of both parties, including Republicans, who warned that gutting VOA could cripple America’s ability to spread truth in authoritarian regimes like Iran, Russia, and China.

But Lake insists the goal isn’t reform — it’s shutdown.

Backing her up, Donald Trump posted on Truth Social, urging Republicans to vote against funding VOA, calling it a “Democrat mouthpiece” and “the voice of radical America.”
His words: “KILL IT!”

Critics warn this would hand media control to regimes that fear free press — while supporters say VOA has become too partisan and needs to go.
