Hello, everyone! Today, we're going to demonstrate how to set up a spider nursery for a small group of Latrodectus hesperus (western black widow) spiderlings. These were hatched on 6/25 and 6/26. The cost for supplies is under $15, and most of it was acquired at Dollar Tree. Be EXTREMELY careful when dealing with dangerous, venomous spiders! Your safety is your own responsibility: we are not responsible for any bites, injuries, or deaths caused while you care for your spider(s) or follow our video instructions. We do not endorse the keeping of black widows by inexperienced arachnid caretakers or children.

For this project, you will need sand or dirt for substrate, plastic boxes, a spray bottle, cotton balls, a stick, twigs, a box or tub, gloves, and a push pin or thumb tack. You may also want an index card or piece of paper and a pen to log information for your spiderlings, if you're interested in keeping track of them.
