During the medieval ages, onyx stones were better known as evil stones, a symbol of mourning and misery. Fortunately, those were different times. Nowadays, onyx is a very desirable mineral (especially, if completely black) that is used as a gemstone in jewellery. Or as in this case, in a watch.This 18038 dates back to the year 1978 and has a matching dial as it is signed 'T Swiss T' below the 6-hour position. Later on, Rolex started using 'Swiss' and after this 'Swiss Made'. We see these two quite often as the 'Swiss Made' was also used as an Onyx service dial. The 'T Swiss T' is the rarest of the three. This magnificent piece is powered by caliber 3055 and carries reference 18038.
