There is a misconception, that only the Over Excited Generator supplies Reactive Power to the Grid. Normally Excited Generator also supplies Reactive Power to the Grid. Reactive Power is required by the Load. e.g. Induction Motor uses the Reactive Power to generate its Magnetic Field.
In the Over Excited Generator, Reactive Power generated is in excess of that required by the Load. Excess Reactive Power is supplied to the other under Excited Generators connected to the Grid.
The Under Excited Generator draws the Reactive Power from the Grid.
