‘5th Nippon Agoonoree’ was made by Nippon Gazo for the Boy Scouts of Japan, in 1987. An Agoonoree is the name used for an event like a Jamboree, but which is designed especially to accommodate requirements of Scouts with special needs. Japan has been holding such events for many years, inviting other Scouts from around the world to join in. Australia has run its own Agoonorees in a number of states.

The film shows the events which began on 31 July 1987. We see the opening ceremony and address by Chief Scout of Japan, Akira Waranabe, then various games to meet other Scouts. The video next gives an impression of the activities available to participants, who range from Cub to Venturer or Rover age groups. Cultural-exchange activities are also shown. We get a glimpse of camp lift, and how despite special needs, fairly typical scout camping is achieved, before the closing ceremony.

Throughout the video, a comparatively large Australian contingent will be glimpsed. Over the years a number of prominent Australian scout leaders have supported Agoonorees and the broader participation of Scouts with special needs within the movement, from those impacted by polio, through to various other needs in the present day.
