Curtin Springs Paper - Eco Fashion Week Australia 2018 Fremantle Show

Was thinking about this absolutely crazy, wild, amazing, stressful time today and went looking for the video....

When I said yes to being a part of Eco Fashion Week Australia, I thought it would be as simple as making some jewellery... from Curtin Springs Paper.... from Central Australian Native Grass. But, I'm not one to do anything by halves, so, not only did I need to create 30 individual jewellery creations, but I also needed to design and make all the clothing to go with them. (Apparently models need to wear more than JUST jewellery on a runway, who would have thought?!).

Most of these outfits were made from sheets, curtains, and forgotten fabric found in the back of Grandma's sewing cupboard.

The panels on the back of the boys shirts is material I had made from a photograph taken of the back of a rusty old truck, and the sand print at the bottom of one of the last dresses I also had made from one of my images.

My favourite was being able to have a play with paper hats. My Grandmother came into the studio one night and I had all the hats lined up. She touched every one of them and talked about how they looked like the hats her mother used to wear. I'll never forget that night with her.
The Top Hat was such a great idea at the time, and so much fun.... but we definitely didn't think about having to transport it across multiple states!

It all would never have been possible without the tribe.... Tag teaming at the sewing machine, bringing food and drinks into the studio at ungodly hours of the night, bouncing ideas, sourcing bits, standing still while I tried something out on you, nodding and smiling when you had NO idea what I was on about, carting excess baggage across state lines, being a reluctant model, helping or leaving me to it, believing in me when I felt like an imposter.
