AeroPress Espresso Attachment Comparison

Описание к видео AeroPress Espresso Attachment Comparison

In this video, we'll be presenting a head-to-head comparison of three Aeropress attachments: the Fellow Prismo, the Aeropress Flow Control Cap, and the Joepresso Espresso Attachment. We have previously covered the Fellow Prismo and the Joepresso in separate videos, with the Joepresso coming out on top for its impressive coffee quality. However, with the recent release of the Aeropress Flow Control Cap, we can now compare all three attachments.

Unfortunately, it seems that the Flow Control Cap is quite similar to the Prismo, yielding similar results. On the other hand, the Joepresso has recently launched a Version 2 of their attachment, which appears to have improved on the original design.

I summarize our findings and evaluate the pros and cons of each attachment, focusing on the espresso-like quality of coffee they produce. Speaking of espresso-like coffee, I always get rolled every time I mention this term because it's not actually espresso, but it's not just straight-filter coffee either. If you have a better word for it, help me out here!

Let's start with the Prismo and the Aeropress Flow Control Cap. The Prismo consists of a stainless steel fine mesh filter, a seal, and a silicone one-way valve. It allows for a small increase in pressure and directs the brew through a single hole at the bottom. Similarly, the Flow Control Cap has a single hole at the bottom, which helps prevent dripping during the bloom and steeping phase. However, the interior of the cap has raised channels for better brewing without the need for a steel filter. You can place a paper filter directly on top and brew coffee that way. On the other hand, the Joepresso has a pressurized filter basket inside, which hasn't changed much from the previous version. The workflow has improved with the new setup.

Each attachment has different grind requirements. The Prismo and the Flow Control Cap require a medium to fine grind, while the Joepresso demands a finer grind, similar to a Moka Pot grind. The Joepresso benefits from a gentle tamping to enhance extraction, as the basket is set at a constant pressure. However, grinding too fine can also affect the taste.

While none of these attachments can truly replicate an espresso shot, they come close in their own ways. In the video, I couldn't help myself and decided to brew all three attachments simultaneously. It's clear that the Joepresso takes the crown for quality and performance, especially with its Version 2 surpassing its predecessor. Transforming your Aeropress into a pressurized percolation brewer, the Joepresso allows you to make a coffee close to espresso at home or anywhere with just an Aeropress. The stainless steel pressurized basket in the Joepresso design is the key to its success.

One of the advantages of the Joepresso is eliminating the need for paper filters and achieving higher pressures compared to the others, resulting in a stronger and more flavorful coffee. While the Fellow Prismo and Aeropress Flow Control Cap have advantages, such as the ability to brew larger coffee and the option to stir the coffee before plunging, the Joepresso excels in delivering a better espresso-like experience.
