Nicula Monastery is located in the north of Transylvania in Nicula village, Cluj County. The monastery was established in the 14th century and the first time it was mentioned in a document was in 1552, as an Eastern Orthodox site. The 17th-century wonderworking icon of the Mother of God turned Nicula Monastery into a famous place of prayer and pilgrimage.
The patronal feast of the Dormition of the Theotokos of Nicula Monastery, in Cluj County, gathers several tens of thousands of people every year. Thousands of believers set up their tents on the meadow in front of the Monastery for the biggest pilgrimage of the summer. The hill in front of the Nicula Monastery looks like a campsite every year. The thousands of people spend the night under the open sky in prayer. They come to the Nicula Monastery from all across Romania and other countries to attend the religious services on the occasion of the patronal feast of Nicula Monastery.
