2016 has been a critical year for EU trade policy, with long and laborious negotiations with a number of international partners. While moving forward on CETA and TTIP with its North-American partners, the EU and China are negotiating a bilateral investment treaty. Other trade agreements are in the making with Japan, Australia and New Zealand.

With 30 million jobs depending on exports outside the EU and the new Trade for All strategy proposed by the European Commission, EU trade policy has today reached a critical crossroads, also because of fierce criticism against these new generation agreements. In which direction will it go?

EurActiv organised a stakeholder workshop to take stock of current EU trade trends and discuss the way forward.
