Significance of Gowri Pooje in Madhwa Sampradya

Doing Gowri pooja by ladies is an integral part of our Sampradaya. We have different types of Gowri pooja through out the year based on Family traditions such as Managala gowri pooja(First five years after wedding), Swarna gowri vratha, Mouna gowri vrata, Gowri triteeya, Jyeshtha Gowri and much more. Today is Swarna Gowri Vratha.

Even if you dont have a Gowri idol for worship, You can make Gowri using Arshina(Turmeric) or do the pooja to the photo/image .

We could see in Rugmini vivaha, Rugmini(Who is an incarnation of Sakshat Mahalakshmi) has done Gowri pooja to show the world, Significance of doing Gowri pooja. It is a common practice in Madhwa sampradaya marriages, that Bride should perform Gowri pooja before the wedding muhurtha.

It is believed, one who worship Goddess Gowri from small age, will be blessed with a good natured suitable boy in their life.

From very small age, we can see in Madhwa households, Girls worship Shiva and parvathi on Deepa sthamba pooja every year during ashaada maasa(Bheemana Amavasye). Along with Tulasi pooja & Hosthilu pooja, A sthri(Women) should also do the Gowri pooja everyday.

On the Auspicious Swarna Gowri Vratha, I have tried to Sing Uma Katyayini Gowri orginally sung by Vidushi. M L Vasantakumari, was very much influenced by her rendition of this composition in the Raga Todi set to Adi Tala.
