In Sub-Saharan Africa, more than 500 children die every day of typhoid or cholera due to a lack of clean water and sanitation. In Cameroon, water-related diseases are responsible for approximately 50% of cases of deaths recorded. Furthermore, due to increasing population pressure on arable land, the biodiversity relying on spring water has gradually disappeared. In other words, water is a “life or death” challenge, for both humans and wildlife, in this region of the world.

Dieudonné Tantoh, best known as “Farmer Tantoh,” almost died of typhoid when he was young. Since then, he swore to himself to do everything he could to provide clean water access to the next Cameroonese generations. And he did: Dieudonné is now an environmental activist who works with his country’s grassroots communities on spring water catchment conservation for more than a decade. His activity has led to over 60 water projects providing clean water to over 50000 people.

This micro-training, made by a man coming from a place where water is considered sacred, will provide you a deep knowledge of water issues: technical, social, familial, gender, and even cultural challenges related to water and environmental projects in the so-called “developing countries.”
