Different measures of volume of distribution can be found in the medical literature. Perhaps the most common is the form that is covered in most of this channel's videos. This form is terminal volume of distribution. It is commonly used to describe oral drugs and is based on half-life calculations from the terminal elimination phase of a drug dose. Steady-state volume of distribution (Vdss or Vss) is defines as a drug's volume of distribution at its steady state Cp as the drug is distributing to/from the plasma and other tissues. Vdss tends to be slightly smaller in value from terminal Vd but is more useful for predicting the behavior of drugs delivered as an IV bolus.
