Pochury Songs

The Pochury people are of recent origin and are composed of 3 major tribes: the Kupo, the Kuchu and the Khury. The word Pochury is actually an acronym of the names of the 3 tribes. According to the legends of the tribe the three villages that the three villages belonged to, namely the Sapo, Kechuri and Khury were battling against each other. Later, the elders of the tribe decided to unite into one tribe in a peace negotiation. Later some immigrant tribes belonging to the Sangtam and the Rengma tribes were also absorbed into the tribe.
