Oreocarya (Cryptantha) crassipes is a wooly little member of the borage family that is somehow able to grow on the barren shake badlands of West Texas near the Mexican Border. #Baculites is a genus of ammonite that lived in the area back when it was underwater, 80 million years prior. Why are members of the Mustard Family, Buckwheat Family and Borage Family so successful in deserts? This question and many others get examined in this episode of Crime Pays But Botany Doesn't.
