Michael Coleman, who is in custody for the murder of Kidada Stewart, has been linked to three additional homicides.

On May 30, 2021, at approximately 11:01 a.m., LVMPD Dispatch received a call advising a man had been shot in the parking lot of a business near the 3900 block of E. Charleston Blvd. Arriving officers located a male, later identified as Benjamin McCarty Jr., suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Medical personnel transported McCarty to UMC Trauma where he was pronounced deceased.

The investigation initiated by the LVMPD Homicide Section indicated McCarty was in the parking lot attempting to tow his car. An unknown suspect approached McCarty and shot him several times before fleeing the area.

On November 23, 2021, at approximately 7:49 p.m., LVMPD officers responded to a restaurant located in the 10300 block of West Charleston Boulevard for a report of a shooting. Responding officers located two victims suffering from gunshot wounds. One victim, later identified as Marcus Larry, was pronounced deceased on scene by medical personnel. The second victim, an employee of the business, was transported to UMC Trauma.

The investigation led by the LVMPD Homicide Section indicated Larry was inside of the restaurant when the suspect entered the business. The suspect immediately approached Larry, produced a firearm, and shot him multiple times. Larry appeared to be specifically targeted by the suspect. During the shooting, the suspect also struck an employee. The suspect, described as Black male adult, fled the area prior to officers’ arrival.

Through the course of the investigation of Larry’s homicide, detectives believed Oscar Richardson was the suspect and a warrant was issued for Richardson’s arrest. On

December 9, 2021, Richardson was arrested in San Antonio, Texas, and was extradited to Las Vegas for open murder with a deadly weapon. Evidence was later discovered that exonerated Richardson and he was released from custody.

On November 26, 2022, at approximately 3:24 p.m., LVMPD officers responded to a shooting near a residence located in the 1100 block of Hassell Avenue. Arriving officers located an unresponsive male, later identified as William Hill Jr., suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Medical personnel transported Hill to UMC trauma where he was pronounced deceased.

The investigation by the LVMPD Homicide Section indicated Hill was on the street attempting to jump start a vehicle. An unknown male suspect approached Hill and began to shoot at him. The suspect fled prior to officers arriving at the scene.


On February 27, 2023, at approximately 9:07 a.m., LVMPD Officers responded to reports of a shooting in the 9800 block of Venus Lake Court. Officers located a female, Kidada Stewart, in the walkway leading to her residence suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Medical personnel responded and transported the victim to UMC where she was pronounced deceased.


The investigation by the LVMPD Homicide Section indicated Stewart arrived at her residence and exited her vehicle. A male dressed in all black clothing, approached her and the two got into an altercation. During the altercation, the male shot Stewart and fled the scene in a vehicle.


Through the course of the investigation into Stewart’s homicide, detectives were able to identify Michael Coleman as the suspect in her case. On May 4, 2023, Coleman was located by officers and arrested. He was booked into the Clark County Detention Center for open murder with a deadly weapon.


Through investigative means and evidence collected during Stewart’s homicide investigation, detectives were able to identify Coleman as the suspect in the homicides of Benjamin McCarty Jr., Marcus Larry, and William Hill Jr. On September 16, 2024, Coleman was re-booked at the Clark County Detention Center for the three additional open murder with a deadly weapon charge.
