A delicious blend of sweet & sour with a good kick of gin and refreshing finish! The perfect homemade cocktail for spring and summer, the Tom Collins and Collins family of cocktails are simple and easy sours to make at home, essentially they are forms of Spiked Lemonade! While the Tom Collins is made with gin, this cocktail recipe is easy to twist with other spirits like vodka, different flavored syrups and different styles of soda!

HISTORY OF THE TOM COLLINS COCKTAIL:

The Tom Collins was originally known as the John Collins, after Head Waiter at the Coffee House at the Limmers Hotel, London in the early 1800s. He designed a gin punch for his guests consisting of Old Tom Gin (a sweetened style popular at the time) lemon juice, soda and orange blossom water that became extremely popular.

It is referred to in Jerry Thomas’ (the Grandfather of Bartending) book ‘The Bartenders Guide’ as the ‘Tom Collins’ in relation to the Old Tom Gin base. Nowadays London Dry style is the most common, however, Old Tom is making a reappearance in the gin world and is being reincluded more and more!

TOM COLLINS COCKTAIL RECIPE: (1:16)

50ml London Dry Gin
30ml Fresh Lemon Juice
20ml Sugar Syrup
Soda Water
Lemon Wedge Garnish

TOM COLLINS METHOD:

Add the Gin, Fresh Lemon Juice and Sugar Syrup to a shaker
Shake well and strain
Top up with Soda
Garnish with the Lemon Wedge and enjoy!
