GETTING STARTED
• Open the file NP_WD19_EOM5-1_FirstLastName_1.docx, available for download from the SAM website.
• Save the file as NP_WD19_EOM5-1_FirstLastName_2.dotx by changing the “1” to a “2”.
o If you do not see the .dotx file extension in the Save As dialog box, do not type it. The program will add the file extension for you automatically.
• To complete this SAM Project, you will also need to download and save the following data files from the SAM website onto your computer:
o Support_WD19_EOM5-1_Slogan.docx
• With the file NP_WD19_EOM5-1_FirstLastName_2.dotx still open, ensure that your first and last name is displayed in the footer.
o If the footer does not display your name, delete the file and download a new copy from the SAM website.
PROJECT STEPS
1. You are a project manager at PrevAqua, a flood-prevention company in Miami, Florida. PrevAqua works with cities in the United States to monitor and control storm water. Project managers are responsible for designing and installing flood-prevention equipment and software. Because members of every project team must create a weekly status report, you are developing a template to make it easier to complete the reports and include the required information. You started with a standard Word template and are customizing it for PrevAqua employees.
Apply the Basic (Simple) style set to use a style set that does not format headings in all caps, which adds more emphasis to the headings than necessary.
2. Change the font color of the text "Report Date" in the "Project Summary" section to White, Background 1 so that the text is easier to read against the dark blue background. Update the Heading 2 style to match the modified "Report Date" text to change the other gray text on a dark blue background.
3. Apply Small caps to the "Summary Item 1" text in the "Status Summary" section. Expand the character spacing by 1 point. Create a character style named Summary based on the formatting of the "Summary Item 1" text.
4. Apply the Summary character style to the text "Summary Item 2" and "Summary Item 3".
5. In the first sentence on Page 2 ("List main points…including the following:"), use the Thesaurus to find a synonym for "main" that begins with the letter "k" to use a more meaningful term.

6. Change the color of the underlining for the text "current status" to Dark Teal, Accent 4 to draw more attention to the text.
