Описание к видео Ann Veronica Janssens Interview: In Dialogue With Physics

“When I do experiments, I often want to share them with people with scientific qualifications. Because I stay in the field of art and sometimes talking about their knowledge is very rewarding.” Follow the widely praised Belgian artist Ann Veronica Janssens as she demonstrates the principles and processes behind a selection of her work to two professors in physics.

“In scientific research, you accept the idea of failure. The idea is to have a result. In art too.” In the video, Janssens shows Associate Professor in Physics, Troels Petersen, around in her sculpture ‘Blue, Red and Yellow’ (2001), and talks to Professor in Physics, Kristine Niss about her work ‘Aquarium’ (1991), ‘Aerogel’ (2000-2002), ‘Golden Dream’ (2011-15), ‘Transparent Fantasy’ (2016), and ‘Blue Glass Roll’ (2019). Of the forms that she works with, Janssens says that very few of these are lasting. However, durability is not that important, because she is trying to capture and give shape to ideas and phenomena that are virtually uncatchable. Moreover, though the materials she uses may seem cold, she is “trying to animate them by the action I produce on them or by the action of light on them, or by the relation I’m trying to establish between my perception or that of an observer and this material and to spark off another experience…”

Ann Veronica Janssens (b. 1956) creates installations, projections, immersive environments, urban interventions, and sculptures that explore the sensory experience of reality. Her work has been shown at the Lyon Biennale, France, the 48th Venice Biennale, Italy, at the Hayward Gallery and Tate Modern in London, UK, the Nasher Sculpture Center, Dallas, USA and at the Grand Palais in Paris, France. She lives and works in Belgium.

Ann Veronica Janssens was interviewed by Christian Lund at her studio in Bruxelles, Belgium in connection to the exhibition ‘Hot Pink Turquoise’ at Louisiana Museum of Modern Art in Humlebæk, Denmark in January 2020.
