Fighting dogs, the toughest challenge.

Klaus, Drake, and Wilhelmina, just arrived at TGD New Orleans all the way from Baton Rouge. Their owners have 5 dogs in total, but these 3 have the most issues, with Drake and Klaus being the major fighting problem.

As is common, little moments of tension, bullying, pushiness which weren’t sufficiently addressed have turned into far bigger issues. From necessitating some kind of trigger to create a fight (a resource/excitement etc.), to the current—which requires no trigger but the sight of each other, and now requiring them to be separated due to constant tension/growling, and mutually attacking each other if given the opportunity…this is the common progression.

I can’t stress enough that if you have a multi-dog home, you HAVE to lead, manage and be hyper vigilant to ensure the peace and prevent things from deteriorating into chaos and violence. So many moments which seem small or benign are anything but, and end up being gateways to truly serious trouble. And if things DO start to go sideways, I highly recommend you find help ASAP. I can’t stress enough how critical the speed of which you address these situations is. A random scuffle or two and you’ve got very good chances of success. Multiple fights with increasing damage, and you’re getting into very murky territory. Once you get to “fight on sight”, it becomes a situation that often can only be managed with crate and rotate, or re-homing. That said, we have managed to save some of these more serious cases, and will be doing our very best to make this one one of those successes.
