On June 11, 2015 a member from the public contacted the Clearwater Marine Aquarium’s Emergency Stranding Hotline about a nesting sea turtle in North Clearwater Beach. The Sea Turtle Nesting Patrol was immediately dispatched to properly document the tracks and nest. Thanks to the caller’s help, CMA was able to verify that this was in fact a nesting Loggerhead sea turtle. Although Loggerheads are our most frequent nesters, it is rare to observe them nesting in the day. This event highlights the critical role of the public in facilitating Clearwater Marine Aquarium’s mission to preserve marine life and their environments.
