Mexican singer Edith Ortiz performs in Mixtec, Zapotec, Nahuatl, Mazatec, Maya and Purepecha. For Edith it is a way of giving ancient languages a new confidence in themselves.
Her great passion for music came from her father, says Edith Ortiz. As a child, I listened to him playing the violin and singing in Mixteco.
One day he saw Plácido Domingo on television. His voice fascinated him. "I discovered the opera that day," says Edith, it was the initial spark of his career.
First steps in Oaxaca
Very young, he left his hometown and moved to the City of Oaxaca de Juarez, to study music and then to Mexico City. The training was classic; his singing teacher put repertoire of Opera as well as pieces in French, Italian and German. "It was a key experience for me, I learned more about the world of music and the great opera singers," says Edith.
His first appearances as a solo singer was in cultural centers, in fairs and festivals. "The beginning was difficult, but that was no reason not to follow my dream and continue."
Operates as universal access to language
In 2010 he sang as a representative of Mexico in a concert in New Zealand, along with people from other indigenous cultures. In the exchange of cultures is the greatest inspiration for Edith.
