In this episode #4, we continue our adventure to get to the Mediterranean Sea. We make our way from Nantes, to Royan, at the mouth of the mighty Gironde estuary.
My long-time friend and best mate Les was going through a rough time. He had lived at my house for a few years and we had talked and dreamed of doing this trip for long enough! Given his deteriorating health I decided to sell my house in Brittany and finance the trip before it was too late.
Adventures aboard SV MINUET highlights my continuing quest to explore the seas and inland waterways of the world.
I bought a Southerly 95 because the southerlies have a retractable keel enabling them to stay afloat in very shallow water (55cm) or even to run aground and wait for the tide to come back up! Perfectly at home on the high seas, a drying harbour or inland rivers and canals.
