The Modi government's decision to keep the treaty "in abeyance" marks a significant departure from previous administrations which maintained the treaty even during wartime. This talk analyses how India is leveraging water control through sediment flushing, data sharing suspension, and flow manipulation to target Pakistan's military establishment, effectively transforming IWT into "India's War on Terror." The speaker provides historical context of the 1960 treaty which gave Pakistan 80% of water resources while highlighting how Pakistan's objections to India's hydropower projects have cost thousands of megawatts in potential electricity generation.

About the Speaker:
Sant Kumar Sharma is a senior journalist with decades of experience across leading media organizations. Born in June 1964, he has worked with renowned outlets such as The Indian Express, The Statesman, The Times of India, Star News, and Dainik Bhaskar. Based in Jammu since May 2000, his journalism has focused extensively on issues concerning Jammu & Kashmir. He is also a Fellow of the Makhanlal Chaturvedi National University of Journalism and Communication, Bhopal.
