European Commissioner for Trade, Maroš Šefčovič, has underlined the importance of a fair and balanced India–EU Free Trade Agreement (FTA). Speaking after meetings in New Delhi, he emphasized that while India is one of Europe’s most strategic partners, any agreement must be commercially meaningful and enjoy support from EU member states and the European Parliament. Šefčovič highlighted that the EU is India’s largest trading partner, with European companies already employing nearly 8 million people in India. He stressed that a well-structured FTA could unlock massive potential for growth, jobs, and investment. Both sides are working to bridge differences, aiming to create a deal that strengthens geopolitical and geoeconomic ties between India and the European Union.
