There are many performance tools nowadays for Linux, but how do they all fit together, and when do we use them? This talk summarizes the three types of performance tools: observability, benchmarking, and tuning, providing a tour of what exists and why they exist. Advanced tools including those based on tracepoints, kprobes, and uprobes are also included: perf_events, ktap, SystemTap, LTTng, and sysdig.
