Poorvi, age 24 (talking to herself):
Sir really motivated me today. Now I feel like memorizing the entire Constitution of India in a single day. I’ll study properly once I get home. Sir was absolutely right — only after studying can one achieve something. Roaming around aimlessly just wastes time and later brings regret.
Sushma, age 50 (teasing):
Poorvi, oh you’re outside? What are you doing here when your house is full of guests? Go and attend to those special guests.
Rekha, age 50 (teasing):
And just look at your clothes — they’ve become dirty from staying outside. Go home quickly and get ready.
Poorvi, age 24 (making a face):
Why do you people keep talking nonsense? Don’t you have any work? You’re always disturbing others and ruining your own peace too.
Sushma, age 50 (mocking):
We barely say anything and you lose your temper. Anyway, go home. Your mother must be waiting. And since such special guests are there, don’t let that sharp tongue of yours run in front of them, or they might get offended.
Poorvi, age 24 (thinking):
What kind of guests could have come that they’re behaving like this? Whatever it is, I’ll find out once I get home.
Narration:
After hearing Sushma’s words, Poorvi walked ahead. When she reached home, she saw many shoes and slippers lying outside.
Poorvi, age 24 (looking):
Oh, so someone really has come. (calling out) Mom, I’m home!
Madhuri, age 50 (coming from inside, softly):
Poorvi, you’re back? Don’t shout. Your prospective in-laws have come. Come inside quickly and get ready.
Poorvi, age 24 (shocked):
Prospective in-laws? Mom, you know I have goals in life. I want to become something. I don’t want to sit idle. I don’t want to become someone’s servant.
Madhuri, age 50 (sternly):
Be quiet. Girls from poor families can’t achieve big dreams. Your father chose this boy with so much happiness. Don’t disappoint him. I don’t want excuses. Just get ready and come downstairs.
Poorvi, age 24 (angrily):
Fine! I’m coming. (thinking) I’ll show these guests what it means to bring a marriage proposal for a girl like me.
Narration:
Poorvi went to her room and got ready. Though poor, she was extremely beautiful, which is why proposals kept coming. But Poorvi had dreams — she wanted to be independent.
Downstairs
Poorvi, age 24 (reluctantly):
Namaste, Aunty.
Asha, age 50 (smiling):
Namaste. Why are you looking so upset? Smile a little.
Poorvi (fake exaggerated smile):
Hehehe… Is this enough, or should I smile more?
Sushmita, age 50 (annoyed):
What a strange girl.
Madhuri (trying to cover):
She has a habit of joking. Please don’t mind.
Sushmita (taunting):

Poorvi drove them away. Her parents scolded her.
Kamal (father):
What did you gain by rejecting this proposal? Now no one will come.
Poorvi:
Good! I’m tired of these proposals anyway.
Kamal:
We are not rich. We just want to see you settled.
Poorvi (sad):
Dad, I want to become an IAS officer. Don’t you want to see me succeed?
Kamal:
Fine. You have one year. If you succeed, good. Otherwise, you will marry.
Poorvi:
Agreed. Just give me one year.
Narration:
Poorvi worked tirelessly, studying day and night while managing her job at a hospital reception.
