Описание к видео I Should Have Known Better- The Beatles (Bass Cover)

Thanks ‪@MichaelSokil‬ for lending me this Hofner 500/1 bass!

I Should Have Known Better is one of my favorite early Beatles songs, and was featured in their 1964 film A Hard Day's Night. It was recorded on February 26, 1964 for the A Hard Day's Night album

Paul played his 1963 Hofner 500/1 Violin Bass into his Vox AC-100 amp. The backing track featured Paul on bass, George on his new Rickenbacker 12-string, John on Gibson J-160e acoustic and vocals, and Ringo on drums

Paul's bassline is bouncy and staccato, although he often sustains notes throughout some sections. He only uses the A and D strings in this song

I'm playing Mike's Hofner HCT 500/1 reissue bass, which has flatwound strings on it. I'm plugged into my 1965 Fender Bassman amp, in the bass channel. I matched Paul's Hofner pickup settings to his typical 1964-1965 switch settings:
Treble OFF
Bass ON
SOLO

INTERESTING NOTES:
0:07 Paul does a hammer-on on the 5th to 7th frets of the A-string, with his pinky
0:12 Paul does a hammer-on on the 4th to 5th frets of the D-string
0:17 Every time there's an E minor at the end of each verse, Paul stays on a G note before descending to an E
1:22 Paul goes to a D accidentally, then plays a different walk-up (B C to D)
1:30 Paul plays a different rhythmic pattern- a syncopated F# before the G
1:32 Paul plays a descending line- G E D B. This is the only time he does this
2:00 Paul plays B-C-B on the B7 chord
2:10 Paul sustains the B note on the A-string, as he goes to the E note on the D-string
2:23 Paul subtly plays a funky syncopated line
2:25 Instead of chromatically walking up C to D, Paul hits an open A-string note after C
2:35 Paul plays a new pattern for the fade-out

GEAR:
Hofner HCT 500/1 SB
1965 Fender Bassman
