On December 15th, during a violent storm, something happened. By the time relief keeper Joseph Moore climbed the 160 steps on Boxing Day, all three men were gone.

Two coats missing. One left behind. Iron railings bent. A boulder weighing over a tonne displaced 60 meters above sea level. And no bodies ever found.
