Welcome to Surfamily School! I'm Ercole Quondamatteo, a coach and shaper, and in this video, I'll guide you through effective workouts designed to boost your surfing skills. If you've felt stuck or struggled to keep up with your friends, this video is for you. I'll share my journey from feeling slow and clumsy to discovering the key to unlocking explosive strength and mobility.

We'll start with a pop-up exercise. Using a surfskate and parallettes, I'll demonstrate how to maintain a neutral wrist position, perform negative pushups, and execute pseudo planche pushups to enhance agility and strength. This will help you transition from paddling to standing quickly and efficiently, setting the tone for your entire ride.

Next, we'll focus on maintaining speed after takeoff. I'll show you how to ride over the wave shoulder, use the correct pumping technique, and link the takeoff exercise with pumping to reduce drag and increase speed. This involves shifting your weight, projecting your arms, and performing fluid movements to keep your board gliding effortlessly.

Lastly, we'll refine your balance and mobility with the figure 8 exercise. This drill will help you master smooth arcs, seamless transitions, and powerful cutbacks. You'll learn to rotate your upper body, shift your weight, and pivot your board to achieve optimal performance.

In addition to these exercises, regular strength training, cardio workouts, and stretching routines are crucial for overall fitness and flexibility. Building core strength and improving flexibility will enhance your stability, control, and range of motion on the board.

Understanding wave dynamics and reading the ocean is essential. Practice timing your takeoffs and positioning yourself optimally to catch the wave's energy. Surfing in different conditions and on various types of waves will help you adapt and build a versatile skill set.
