The idea that you must eat every few hours or 6 meals per day assumes that if you don’t your metabolism will start to slow down.

This idea is easy to buy into for a few reasons. 1) If you eat frequent meals your body must continuously break down the food, increasing your metabolism and 2) Every person preaches it.

In truth, your metabolism may increase a bit, but you won’t burn any fat due to your insulin being elevated.

WHAT IS INSULIN

When you eat your blood sugar rises, which causes your hormone, insulin, to rise. Insulin is a storage hormone. Meaning it will store the food you eat into fat or into muscle. Most Americans are insulin resistant due to: eating high carb diet, eating multiple meals per day, and being sedentary.

If you’re insulin resistant, then every time you eat, your food will get stored as fat. To start losing fat you must teach the body how to become insulin sensitive. This is where intermittent fasting comes into play.

Intermittent fasting allows your blood sugar to drop which will drop your insulin levels. When insulin is lowered over a long enough period, your body will then go into a “fat burning mode.” Your body will use its own fat for energy. Causing you to lose fat quickly and easily.
