When Stepdance Day 2020 was cancelled due to Covid-19, our sponsors, The Instep Research Team agreed to let us produce a short stepdance film instead. The idea was triggered by the Strumpshaw Tree Fair who produced a virtual film instead. It was here we had intended to run our Stepdance Day in 2020.

With stepdancer Fiona Davies taking on the Director role for this EATMT produced film, we filmed Mo Allum from Essex, Lennie Whiting from Suffolk, Ben Davies from Norfolk and Michael Czarnobaj and Erin Brown from Cambridgeshire, each dancing with their own musician.

Stepdancing across the region was popular with the Romany Gypsy communities, the fishing communities, among horsemen and farm workers where after a busy week, it was a free style form of entertainment often seen on a Saturday night.

We are extremely grateful to the dancers, musicians, crew and the venues all of which helped make this film possible in times that have been very difficult to work in with Covid 19, time and financial restrictions.

There are many more steppers that regularly step in the region - this film is just a snap shot of this very special tradition.
