I often get asked what the difference between a blazer, sport coat, and a suit are by my customers. In 2023 there is not much of a difference between a sport coat and a blazer. In the past a blazer was known to have gold buttons on the jacket, while a sport coat did not have gold buttons on it. These gold buttons were normally metal as well. Most sport coats have a plastic button that compliments the jacket. Today day you can call it either a sport coat or a blazer. While the difference between a sport coat and a suit is that a suit has pants made from the same material as the jacket. Suits you want your pant to match the jacket for a complete look. Most often a sport coat or a blazer is made from a material that is heavier and you don’t want to make pants out of it. With a heavier material you won’t want the matching pant because this will just make you sweat. Those are the major differences between a blazer, sport coat, and a suit.
