Following the success of last year’s show – Five Short Plays Loosely Linked by the
Theme of Crime – Low Bar Theatre are back with an anthology of four more
brand new crime-comedy plays. A group of friends gather in the pub to plot a
risky scheme involving forgery of a will. A duo of incompetent gangsters
attempt to extort money from an uncooperative butcher. A modern-day Macbeth
is pressured into committing murder to secure a promotion. A gang of outlaws in
the Old West rob a train, only to discover that it has a very unusual cargo.
Low Bar Theatre’s work has been compared to the Coen Brothers, Guy
Ritchie, and Tarantino, owing to the finesse with which it walks the line
between the comedic and the morbid. Each of these new plays draws inspiration
from a variety of different genres and forms, from sit-coms like It’s Always
Sunny in Philadelphia, to farces like One Man, Two Guvnors, to sketch
comedy such as The Two Ronnies, to the classic Westerns of Ford and
Eastwood. The cast of three multirole across the four distinct plays, showcasing
their talent and range.
Low Bar Theatre was founded in 2023 by writer-director-producer Charles
Edward Pipe and made their Edinburgh Festival Fringe debut that same year with
Five Short Plays Loosely Linked by the Theme of Crime. Charles’s recent directing
credits include Truly, Madly, Deadly by Sarah Cameron-West and Wet Bulb by
Kayleigh Mai Hinsley. Charles’s recent writing credits include The Buffalo and the
Passenger Pigeon.
