Join Peter Knego on this high definition walk through of the world's fastest ever ocean liner, the 1952-built S.S. UNITED STATES, which is currently laid up in Philadelphia and being prepped for removal to Norfolk where she will begin the process of being turned into the world's largest artificial reef off Florida's Gulf Coast. Knego shot this footage on 2 September 2024, literally days before the court-ordered deadline for the ship's removal. The UNITED STATES, although stripped in 1992 to remove her once asbestos-filled interiors, is, despite her exterior appearance, still structurally sound and, despite her newly confirmed fate, ready for repurposing as a hotel and museum.
