Polynomials introduction
Learn the basics of Polynomials of class 10

Polynomials = Poly (many) + Nomials (terms)
An algebraic expression p(x) of the form p(x)=a0+a1x…where a0,a1,a2,…are real number and indices of x are non-negative integer [0:59]

Degree of Polynomial [2:37]
The highest power of x in p(x) is called the degree of the polynomial
For example, 4x + 2 is a polynomial in the variable x of degree 1

Linear Polynomial
A polynomial of degree 1 is called a linear polynomial.
Quadratic Polynomial
A polynomial of degree 2 is called a quadratic polynomial.
Cubic Polynomial
A polynomial of degree 3 is called a cubic polynomial.
Biquadratic Polynomial
A polynomial of degree 4 is called a Biquadratic polynomial

Zero of a Polynomial [3:57]
A real number ∝ is called a zero of a polynomial p(x), if p(∝) = 0
Or
A zero of a polynomial is the value of the variable for which the value of the polynomial becomes zero.

Note:
i) When a quadratic polynomial is plotted on the graph, shape of curve is either upward opening parabola or downward opening parabola. [5:45]

ii) The zeroes of a polynomial p(x) are precisely the x- coordinates of the points where graph of y=p(x) intersects the x-axis [5:59]

The graph of y=p(x) are given in figures below for some polynomials p(x). Find the number of zeroes of p(x), in each case.
