Terrence Mallick's "A Hidden Life" is an underrated masterpiece. Based on true events, the movie follows an Austrian farmer called Franz Jägerstätter, a conscientious objector who peacefully opposed the Nazi regime because of his faith. Mallick approached this little-known story with his unique visual style, inner dialogues and long-burning storytelling masterfully, conveying all the weight of the story and immersing the viewers in these real-life circumstances.

James Newton Howard fulfilled his scoring duties by composing one of the most expressive and dramatic orchestral themes I've ever heard. As the story progresses towards its dramatic resolution, the main theme evolves from its initial joyful and idilliac feeling to a more heavy and thoughtful tone, expressing the isolation of the characters perfecly with the performance of James Ehnes's marvelous skills.

"A Hidden Life" is the best Christian movie I've ever seen. As a believer myself, this story tackles moral dilemmas and the struggle of faith in a subtle and powerful way, challenging and ultimately encouraging its viewer with the example of Franz Jägerstätter. The epilogue of the movie, featuring the tracks "There Will Be No Mysteries" and "Hope", was one of the most beautiful cinematic experience I've witnessed in years - and much of its power relied on James Newton Howard's masterful score which is capable of being delicate and strong at the same time. Totally deserved an Oscar nomination for Best Original Score back in 2019.
