“Society Is Starting To Break Down” Britain’s Prisons Reach Capacity

Former Met DCI Mike Neville says “society is starting to break down” as Britain’s prisons are full.

This comes after controversial plans were announced to release prisoners early as an emergency measure to cope with overcrowding.

First announced last year, the Government insisted the measure would be temporary and would only allow “low-level offenders” out of prison up to 18 days early under strict supervision.

But earlier this month, it emerged that ministers were preparing to extend the scheme for a second time so some criminals could be freed from jail up to 70 days before their release date.

Mike says: “The people who break the rules get away with it, have an easy life and they have no fear of punishment!”
